You're going to Hell...because you're Ugly.
So I was walking back from class and was stopped by a crowd of people near the pit. Me being the nosey person I am, I wanted to see what was going on. It was the pit "preacher". ONCE AGAIN. This wasn't the first time I let him waste my time. I sat and listened for awhile and then decided to get out my camera and record him. Frankly, he just doesn't seem genuine to me. He basically thinks that everyone is going to hell, and his views on religion are backwards. He changes them constantly and he half reads everything. The students here argue with him in a failed attempt to get him to understand and respect their opinion. However, it never seems to work out this way. The pit "preacher" is only for show.

i completely agree. But at the same time i think that instead of students arguing with him, they should just not give him there time. By stopping to listen he is getting the attention that he craves.
ReplyDeleteI agree! He wants attention! He does talk like he met God! I listened to him one day and he was talking about how Michael Jackson was looked at as a God and that he was going to H-E-Double Hockey Sticks. He even did some of Michael Jackson moves! I don't know I wasted my time stopping to hear him. Like I said all he wants is attention!
ReplyDeleteI understand how people can get frustrated with him because his views are old fashioned and VERY conservative, but I don't think that gives students the right to attack him. Everytime I see him out there, students are always yelling about how dumb and wrong his views are. I don't agree with his opinions, but he should have the right to say them without fearing the verbal whiplash that is sure to follow. It's normal to expect people to disagree. I just think they should disagree fairly.
ReplyDeleteI think the thing is, he doesn't have a set view. He twists and distorts everything that comes out of his mouth. He's too wishy washy. But everyone is has a right to their opinion. haha Michael, you are too funny! I wish I would've caught him doing Michael Jackson's moves on video!!
ReplyDeleteI've listened to the pit preacher a couple times. Sometimes he is just entertaining to watch, he puts on a very good show. I can see where he gets some of his views, most of them are very distorted though. But, one thing that gets me about these types of people is that they judge others all the time. He has no right to tell others that they are going to Hell, in fact the bible says that only God can decide that. Whether or not he is putting on a show or not, some of the things that he says are wrong and some of them are very hurtful.
ReplyDeleteI agree Jake. A lot of the times, I watch him for entertainment. I laugh at some of the things he says because they are just so ridiculous. But sometimes, it's like he's trying to step in the place as God and tell us our destiny. It's just crazy talk if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteThe other pit preachers are actually somewhat agreeable, at least if you talk to them when they aren't preaching. Gary seems to just be insane, but apparently the rest of them are pretty normal preachers who come to UNC because college students are the hardest crowd to preach here, and to try out new ideas, because everyone here already thinks they are crazy. According to the preachers, at least. I would definitely agree that Gary is there for attention though.
