Stamped Religion

It's obvious that everyone has their own preference of religion, some different- some the same. However, religion is one of those touchy subjects that get some people antsy. The Daily Tarheel recently had an article about how a UNC student's religious beliefs are represented through tattoos all over his body. The article titled "Identity in Ink" focuses primarily on the story his tattoos tell. Being a transgender as well as a Christian, it was hard for Angel Collie to find a church that truly accepted him. He used his tattoos as a symbol of identity and hope. Everyone may have their own opinion on this story, but it all comes down to personal beliefs. One culture may accept him, while others may not; it just depends on their own individual religious beliefs.

They are unique. They are opinionated. They are UNC students.

This video is a little conversation about what two UNC students feel about certain rights in terms of religion (Sorry about the coughing- I just recovered from Swine flu)

  1. The church that rejected Angel was filled with a bunch of sinners and should be ashamed for shunning someone that was only trying to become close to God. These Christians that think that they are strong and devoted Christians need to think again because when you can no longer accept peoples differences you are weak. I'm just so annoyed by how people feel that their sin isn't as bad as the "sin" gay people commit.

  2. The church Angel went to should not have exiled him. We as Christians should accept everyone and guide them in the right direction. One of the main problems that Christians encounter is judging other people, and it is time for us-Christians- to realize that only God can do the judging(And that also goes for the video). When we judge other people, we are committing sin as well.

  3. I do not agree with Alexis in saying that gay people are born gay. But of course, that is her opinion. A person chooses to be gay, because of an event that occurred in their life. A child could become gay if he was raped or abused by a member of the opposite sex, or a woman could become gay due to a bad relationship with the opposite sex.

Gay people are not going to heaven because in the Bible it clearly states that homosexuality is not approved for the kingdom. Leviticus 18:22 states that it is a sin. There is NOOOOOo way a gay person can enter into heaven. Of course there are plenty of gay people in the church, as well as liars, fornicators, and thieves, but that does not make their behavior right. If someone really wants to become "ungay" and sincerely repent, they will be able to become straight.

  4. lol. Interesting topic. I feel like everybody's entitled to their own opinion, however I personally feel that you are born with a certain attraction to a certain sex. Nevertheless, I believe that homosexuality has become a sort of a trend among teenagers, primarily girls who are convinces that making out with other females is sexy. This doesn't necessarily mean that they are gay or wish to, in the long run, be involved in a gay relationship, they are merely experiencing for the fun of it. Take my old high school in Florida for example, a lot of the girls that were straight freshman and sophmore year, turned to girls for attention and "claimed" to be gay or bi-sexual.

  5. Ok what do you have to say about the people that have never had a traumatic experience or a bad relationship? Why are they gay? People are always using traumatic experiences as an example I myself was molested as a child why am I not gay? You don't have an answer that do you. My friend Tyler is a homosexual and never had any type of traumatic experience in his life so why is he gay? He tried to date girls but eventually found that he was not attracted to girls mentally and sexually. I just don't see how people can just believe that everything in the bible holds true. The bible was written by man through inspiration of God but it was an interpretation of his word. I don't believe that anyone should be deemed the one that determines if one person is going to hell because I know that God is not going to let you be the judge of who gets into heaven. There are many things that the bible states is a sin so don't single gay people out as ones going to hell. I don't think people would choose to be shunned from the church, society, family, and work tell me that they choose to be this way.I know people who have dedicated much time to trying to become "ungay" and they continue to be gay. Rosie O'Donnell is one that has tried to become ungay but yet she is continues to be gay. Did you decide to be straight because by making that statement you are saying that. I do understand that many people might be experimenting with their sexuality but I believe that many people are not experimenting at all. What do you have to say about the children that have had gay tendencies as a child and when they become an adult they are still gay. You say much of this as if you are certain about people choosing to be gay. People are always trying to force people to be a certain way but if they are unhappy being the way society wants them to be I don't believe that you should be able to do that when people are not forcing you to be unhappy.

  6. So many things to say to this. First off i agree with the man in this conversation. When you TRULY and HONESTLY except Jesus Christ into your life then you give him the power to make you a new creature. That means any sin he finds, you will be convicted of. You will know what is wrong and right. Those whom you say that are "trying so hard" are obiviously trying the wrong things. The right way is not hard to find...its just hard to follow. We have to want to change. We have to want to let God deal with our hearts. You are right about Christians shunning people that are not like them. That makes every christian look bad. But a true Christian prays for a lost soul and too many times do they judge before they pray. Children who have "tendencies"? What kind of home are they growing up in? Every single person on this earth; Straight or Gay sin and fall short of the glory of God each and every day.
