Rape- I Have a Dream...

Martin Luther King had a dream that we would all be created equal, and was a strong believer of nonviolence. However, a 19 year old women was raped on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard- right near the UNC campus. His dream was her nightmare. How ironic. This young lady was walking after 11 p.m. Strike one. She was alone. Strike two. Can't think of a strike three but she definitely should've been more precautious of her surroundings. But for someone to do such a violent crime appauls me. I know it happens everywhere but no one deserves to be treated or handled in such a matter. Rape IS a violent crime that is sometimes overlooked. Chapel Hill police are still working on the missing pieces. Let's just hope the puzzle gets put together soon and Martin Luther King's dream still continues to thrive.

  1. Rape, like the blog said, is overlooked. Many people who get raped do not report it authorities because they are afraid that no one will beleive their story, or they think that the dirt is over. But that is not so. If you get raped...REPORT IT...People need to understand that NO means NO. Do not let the person who raped you get away with the crime! If you don't do it for yourself, do it for the other potential rape victims. Don't let them go through the same Hell you had to endure! We are all overcomers, and thanks to Martin Luther King Jr. we will continue to prevail!

  2. So, from a girl's point of view, this is really scary. I try not to walk by myself at night, but sometimes there is really no other option. However, I wish there were safer ways to get around on campus, especially for girls.

  3. This is soo true!!! I read this story and was wondering the exact same thing!! Why in the world would she walk all alone by herself at night. I'm not saying that it is her fault but she sure could have took some precautions to stop it.

  4. Yea I really don't understand it. But I still think we should be able to walk alone without worrying about getting raped. However, that's not the way the world works. We have to be cautious of our surroundings and expect the worse sometimes, especially when walking alone late at night.

  5. I mean i understand where yall coming from however stuff happens.Like i know I myself have recently been placed in the same predicament last week. I spent all night at the library studying for a Econ midterm and by the time I was done studying, it was almost 2 am. I had no choice but to walk back to my dorm, at night, all alone... Thus, all the blame should be placed on the criminal, I don't even think any bit of emphasis should even be brought on the girl's unfortunate circumstances of being alone late at night because sometimes you just don't have a choice. I know I didn't.

  6. Not putting any blame on her, but as women and the way the world is today- we have to be more cautious as to where we go late at night and with walking alone at night as well.
